Ferrari, a lackluster season
After a promising start in the 2022 Formula One season that had excited fans, with Charles Leclerc appearing to be the man to beat (the Monegasque driver secured two race wins in the first three GPs), Scuderia Ferrari soon experienced the forceful comeback of Red Bull.
A superiority that quickly turned into outright dominance, as in the last two years out of 44 Grands Prix, Max Verstappen has won a staggering 34, with Sergio Perez victorious on four occasions. The percentage is quickly calculated: an 86% success rate since the introduction of the last regulatory cycle.
In 2023, Ferrari soon realized that the Scuderia could not compete for the championship against the invincible Red Bull and focused on improving the SF-23. Frederic Vasseur’s men failed to secure the second position in the constructors’ standings after a close battle against Mercedes, but they can build on the success at the Marina Bay street circuit in Singapore and the effective functioning of updates designed to address the car’s shortcomings throughout the 2023 Formula One season.
Words of hope from Enrico Cardile
The technical director of Maranello, Enrico Cardile, had already assured in the past months that the 2024 F1 car would not be a mere evolution of the one seen on the track this year.
These words were confirmed during the Caschi d’Oro and Volanti ACI awards ceremony: “We closed the gap to Red Bull during the season after understanding why the performance of the SF-23 was not what we expected. Evolution or revolution in 2024? It will be a different car, that’s for sure. The limits of this year’s Ferrari have been fixed,” Enrico Cardile’s comments express confidence in the new car, which could be unveiled in the second week of February, according to recent rumors.
