Mourning in the world of Formula 1: Alberto Antonini has passed away. His name was associated with the Ferrari team, where he served as the spokesperson during the Maurizio Arrivabene era.
Alberto Antonini was 62 years old. Hailing from Imola, he began his career as a journalist at Autosprint. Later, he collaborated with Sky and other well-known publications in the publishing world. In 2015, he joined the Ferrari team as a press officer; Antonini was part of the revolution initiated by Sergio Marchionne to rejuvenate the Prancing Horse both on and off the track. The journalist remained connected to the Maranello team until 2019, covering the entire period when Maurizio Arrivabene was the Team Principal of the Scuderia.
Alberto Antonini passed away today at the Seragnoli Hematology Department of the Sant’Orsola Policlinic in Bologna. According to reports, the former Autosprint writer had been battling leukemia for some time; the illness seemed to be under control. At least until a few days ago.
Alberto Antonini was a well-known figure not only among Ferrari fans but also within the racing community. He spoke fluent English and had a sharp and highly competent style in the field of motorsport.
In one of his recent editorials for the Italian website FormulaPassion, Alberto Antonini had discussed the issues of the current Ferrari with a critical eye. “The season for the Red Team started poorly and risks ending even worse,” he wrote, commenting on the disastrous start to 2023, “if the developments don’t yield the expected results as happened in Spain.”
“On the one hand, it is clear that if the problems are only on the SF-23 and not on the other cars, the blame lies with Ferrari and not Pirelli. On the other hand, there seems to be an evident difficulty in technical dialogue between Maranello and the sole supplier,” he continued.
