In Brazil, organizers are considering circuit modifications after the incidents that occurred during the Sprint race. On Saturday, three drivers went off track at the same section due to water puddles forming on the curbs. To prevent this from happening again, changes have been planned for turn 3.
The situation was triggered by Lando Norris, who ran slightly wide in turn 3, bringing water onto the curb. Kimi Antonelli noticed this immediately and avoided the affected area by staying inside. Oscar Piastri, Nico Hulkenberg, and Franco Colapinto, however, were less fortunate and ended up hitting the barriers. Max Verstappen also faced risk but managed to control his car miraculously.
The work carried out in São Paulo
Following the Sprint race incidents, the decision was made to modify the track at turn 3. According to The Race, organizers installed a drainage channel that directs water toward the grass inside the corner. This should prevent puddles from forming in areas where cars run.
The operation was completed on Saturday evening, using an industrial saw to cut into the concrete. The Sprint race red flag incident allowed Norris to extend his championship lead, as his main rival retired.
Rain is not expected for the São Paulo race, but the measure was taken as a precaution. Weather in this region, especially at this time of year, is unpredictable, so wet conditions cannot be entirely ruled out. The Saturday incident occurred even though drivers were on slick tires, despite several damp sections on the track.
