Last year, the GP trophy featured a circular motif, similar to the one used for the Chinese GP earlier in the season, which sparked some debate. However, the design was chosen for a very specific reason. The trophy was round with a laurel leaf decoration on the sides. The circular shape was inspired by the Brazilian flag, while the green details referenced the country’s flora. It also paid homage to past Olympic champions who were awarded laurel wreaths on the podiums.
This year, everything is different, and the symbolism is even deeper. For the first time, the GP organizers took direct responsibility for conceiving and creating the trophies, which will honor the local culture.
The 2025 trophies
This year, Mauricio Noronha and Rodrigo Brenner, with finishing by Alan Mosca – son of Sid Mosca, the designer behind helmets for legends of the sport including Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher – created the trophies. The cups were produced using 3D printing in recycled cast aluminum and then coated with metallic paint to enhance the reflections.
The meaning of this design is complex but ingenious. The trophies feature ten rows of laurel leaves, representing the ten F1 teams. The first row contains exactly twelve leaves, like the hours on a clock, symbolizing a race against time. The shape itself resembles an hourglass and draws inspiration from the iconic “S do Senna” curve, reinforcing the concept of time.
These trophies represent the intersection of technology, art, and culture. Through this design, the organizers aim to honor Brazil’s passion for motorsport. Brenner described the work as “a metaphor for Brazilian plurality.”
Alan Adler, CEO of the São Paulo GP, stated: “This project, which we began developing in April, is designed to communicate our broad and pluralistic culture to the world.”
Finally, Alan Mosca added: “It has been an honor to be involved in such a significant project. After fifty years of experience in the field, being able to contribute to such an iconic trophy is a recognition of our work.”
