A fuel system leak forced Carlos Sainz to retire even before the start in the Qatar Grand Prix, a few weeks ago at the Losail International Circuit. The same fate befell his Maranello teammate Charles Leclerc a few days ago, with the Monegasque retiring during the formation lap due to an electronic issue (although Ferrari has not yet specified the exact cause of the failure) that made the car uncontrollable. The Spaniard discussed the reliability factor after finishing sixth at Interlagos.
Carlos Sainz is relatively worried about Ferrari’s reliability.
“I’m relatively worried,” the Spaniard stated on the F1 Nation podcast. “At the same time, it’s the end of the season. I think it’s always tough for the components with so many back-to-back races.” – he pointed out.
“Clearly, there are teams that have fewer problems than us. This shows that we need to do better. But at the same time, we’re pushing to the limit in the battle with Mercedes, and you always expose yourself. Maybe other teams are running with a bit more margin.” – the Spaniard added.
Despite the two retirements in Qatar and Brazil, Ferrari has managed to narrow the gap in the standings to Mercedes, thanks to the chaos at the start between Hamilton and Russell in Losail and the unexplained Interlagos debacle, from which the Brackley-based team could only salvage four points.
“The Ferrari has always been a bit problematic since the beginning of the year,” said Ralf Schumacher. “Fred Vasseur can’t transform the whole setup in six or seven months. Even for Michael, Ross Brawn, and Jean Todt, it took a few years. Patience is needed at Ferrari.”

With two more races to go, Mercedes still maintains a 20-point advantage in the Constructors’ Championship. However, the game is wide open, and much will depend on the upcoming weekend in Las Vegas, scheduled for November 17-19.
