Chaos at the end of the Canadian GP: half the grid under post-race investigation with Oscar Piastri, Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc, Kimi Antonelli and many others at risk of penalties
The 2025 Canadian Grand Prix ended with a long list of incidents for the stewards to analyze, with half the grid under investigation and at risk of penalties. Despite the chequered flag, tension remained high due to four official investigations announced by the FIA, all related to events in the final laps, particularly on lap 70, the last lap of the GP.
Among the main incidents under review is the collision between Lando Norris (car #4) and Oscar Piastri (car #81), which occurred on the start-finish straight. The incident was noted and subsequently confirmed to be investigated after the race for “causing a collision”. This is a key moment that could influence the final standings and the points haul for both McLaren drivers.
Many drivers under investigation: who they are and the reasons why
But that’s not all. Another hot topic concerns a possible infringement during the Safety Car period. The investigation involves no fewer than seven cars: Antonelli (#12), Piastri (#81), Ocon (#31), Leclerc (#16), Sainz (#55), Gasly (#10), and Stroll (#18). The stewards will have to assess whether the drivers complied with the rules during the neutralization phase.
Complicating matters further, another incident under scrutiny by race control is the behavior of Esteban Ocon (#31) and Carlos Sainz (#55) at Turn 2, where both were reported for “driving erratically”. In this case as well, a decision will be made after the race.
All these episodes will be analyzed in the coming hours and could result in retrospective penalties, directly impacting the finishing order and the championship standings. It is a delicate situation, especially for the teams fighting for important positions in the top 10.
Waiting for FIA verdicts
Meanwhile, fans and teams remain on edge as they await the FIA’s official decisions, which could rewrite part of the results achieved on track. It remains to be seen whether time penalties will be handed out or penalty points issued on the licences of the drivers involved.
