Ferrari climbs the F1 standings, but some believe it’s not thanks to the SF-25: the reason lies elsewhere.
The last three races have allowed Ferrari fans to start seeing light at the end of the tunnel, as the Scuderia has managed to climb the F1 Constructors’ standings and now sits in second place behind McLaren. This outcome was unexpected after the early races of 2025, and yet, according to a former Ferrari engineer, the improvement is not due to actual progress with the SF-25.
The reason behind Ferrari’s improvement
Luigi Mazzola, former Ferrari engineer, spoke about the steps forward made by the Scuderia over the last three races. “Ferrari has resurfaced, but not because the SF-25 has improved. In these three races, the rivals were missing. Red Bull has somewhat disappeared, while Mercedes suffered several reliability issues. In Barcelona, the Silver Arrows were absent, and I didn’t understand the choice to fit Verstappen with hard tyres at all. And so Ferrari managed to take a podium. That said, the gap with McLaren is still there,” said the former technician in an interview on the newsF1 YouTube channel.
According to this perspective, the leap in the standings made by Maranello’s team in recent weeks could be more due to the shortcomings of their competitors. In this context, the Canadian weekend will be crucial to understanding the real progress made by Fred Vasseur’s team, especially considering that last year, after the win in Monaco, the race in Montreal turned into a true nightmare for the Scuderia.
