A long wait
As is well known, Ferrari hasn’t won the drivers’ championship since 2007 with Kimi Raikkonen and the constructors’ title since 2008. The years are passing, and this is becoming the longest title drought in the team’s history. The drivers’ title was missing for 21 long years between 1979 and 2000, but for the constructors it was 16 years between the 1983 title and the one in 1999. In short, if no title comes this year, for the first time 17 seasons will have passed without a championship—be it drivers or constructors.
No promises from Fred Vasseur
In a long interview given to the Italian daily newspaper La Stampa, team principal Frederic Vasseur did not want to make any proclamations about a return to victory in races, which has been missing for 13 Grands Prix (the last win came courtesy of Carlos Sainz in Mexico 2024): “Step by step we want to continue closing the gap to McLaren. I don’t know if we’ll win in one, two, or three months. I can’t make promises to the fans except that we’ll give 200% and push like crazy, even though the others aren’t sleeping. But our approach is good.” – the French manager pointed out.
The future
Fred Vasseur also spoke about his position at Ferrari: “I’ve just turned 57… On the grid, there’s no bigger and more rewarding challenge than being team principal of Ferrari. There’s probably no position more exposed than mine, but I love working with the team and the drivers—we have great team spirit.” – the former Alfa Romeo team principal continued.
He kept a low profile looking ahead to 2026, not making any bold claims: “We’re starting from scratch, and that’s exciting for everyone. It will be a completely new challenge—I can’t recall anything similar in F1. And it’s impossible to have benchmarks compared to the others.” – Fred Vasseur concluded.
