F1 | McLaren linked with Charles Leclerc for 2027, but Ferrari remains his priority. Rumours continue to surround Charles Leclerc’s future ahead of the 2027 F1 season.

Charles Leclerc, Ferrari, 2025 F1

Rumours surrounding the future of Charles Leclerc continue to intensify, ranging from the possibility of a long-term stay at Ferrari to growing interest from McLaren with a view to the 2027 Formula 1 season.

It is something that has been repeated for months now. The opening weeks of the 2026 season are expected to turn the following summer break into a constant wave of driver market speculation. This is because all the drivers on the grid are eager to understand the true competitive order on track before choosing the best possible team for 2027, a season that could feature a genuine carousel of seat changes.

The arrival of the new technical regulations means that the hierarchies seen so far could be decisively overturned. As a result, top drivers are waiting to gain a clear picture of the situation before calmly sitting down at the negotiating table. Among those seeking concrete answers is certainly Charles Leclerc, who has recently signed a multi-year contract extension with Ferrari but remains eager to finally have a car capable of allowing him to fight for the world championship.

For this reason, the Monegasque driver could soon start looking around with 2027 in mind. Offers are certainly not lacking, and one of the latest teams to be linked with him appears to be McLaren. According to several rumours circulating in recent days, the team that has recently secured a championship double has set its sights on Ferrari’s number 16. The speculation suggests that Oscar Piastri could leave at the end of 2026 to join a Red Bull squad that risks losing Max Verstappen, who is increasingly being courted by Mercedes and Aston Martin.

But Charles has already chosen his future

Returning to Charles Leclerc, everything suggests that the Monegasque has already made a clear decision about his future. As he has reiterated on multiple occasions, his focus is entirely on Ferrari, and his main objective remains winning the Formula 1 world championship at the wheel of the Scuderia’s car. For this reason, he is believed to have asked his manager, Nicolas Todt, not to engage in any kind of contact with rival teams. Ferrari has placed strong faith in Leclerc, and he wants to continue chasing his dream while wearing the colours of the Prancing Horse.

Of course, the situation could change rather quickly if Fred Vasseur’s team were to arrive at the Australian Grand Prix lagging behind its main rivals. In that scenario, every discussion could take a very different direction, potentially reshaping the outlook of the 2027 driver market.
