Giorgio Terruzzi has openly criticized the communication strategy adopted by Ferrari Team Principal Fréd Vasseur throughout the challenging 2025 season. Speaking after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Terruzzi took aim at the French manager’s approach, arguing that it lacked depth and failed to provide concrete explanations for the team’s inconsistent performances.
A turbulent year for Ferrari
Ferrari endured a difficult 2025 campaign. Charles Leclerc secured all seven of the team’s podiums but faces multiple offers from other teams as he plans for 2027. The next regulatory cycle will be crucial in determining the future of his career at Maranello. Lewis Hamilton, on the other hand, is in a more precarious position; Ferrari could choose to replace him at the end of next year, leaving the seven-time world champion with few options. Fred Vasseur himself saw his role as Team Principal questioned this season, but it was his choice of words and communication style that drew significant attention. Giorgio Terruzzi revisited these issues during his podcast.
Giorgio Terruzzi: “There’s never a concrete analysis of what’s wrong”
“Leclerc is pushing like crazy. Yet, once again, we don’t understand why this car swings from respectable performances, like what Charles showed in Abu Dhabi, to disastrous runs, such as in Qatar. It’s happened so many times this year. I keep saying it: Fred Vasseur’s comments never convince me. He never really gets into the details. He always repeats that it’s just a matter of a moment, a few hundredths of a second to go from fourth to fourteenth place,” Giorgio Terruzzi explained.
“Yes, of course, but the point is that Ferrari is almost always fourteenth and rarely fourth. Those hundredths of a second matter for everyone, yet the team consistently finds itself on the wrong side of the spectrum. And there’s never a concrete analysis of what’s truly failing. They always talk about this so-called window, but what does it mean? We want to understand what’s actually happening. It’s impossible to get precise explanations.”
According to Giorgio Terruzzi, Fred Vasseur’s words were likely influenced by deliberate internal choices. Highlighting mistakes within the team could have reflected poorly on the engineers working on Project 678, so the Team Principal often acted as a lightning rod, speaking publicly on issues only tangentially related to Ferrari’s underperformance. There is hope that 2026 will provide a fresh start and allow Fred Vasseur to communicate clearly and directly, as he had demonstrated during the 2024 season.
As Ferrari turns the page to 2026 with renewed determination, fans hope for not only improved on-track performance but also a return to the more straightforward and insightful communication style Fred Vasseur displayed during the more promising 2024 season. With major changes on the horizon, clarity from the top could prove just as valuable as speed on the circuit.
