Seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton is experiencing a tough start to the season with Ferrari. His arrival certainly sparked high expectations, but so far they’ve been somewhat unmet. However, Lewis Hamilton revealed some off-track challenges he has been facing since arriving in Maranello.
During a media session in Miami, Lewis Hamilton shared a few curiosities about his new life in Italy and gave some surprising answers.
Life in Italy
After 12 years at Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton is now trying to learn new habits and a different working method. The biggest hurdle, however, might be the language. During his first public appearances as a Ferrari driver, Lewis Hamilton surprised many with a few remarks in Italian. However, the British driver admitted: “I’m not living in Italy at the moment, but spending more time there is something I still really want to try and figure out how to do during the year. My Italian is not really progressing, so I probably need to throw myself into it more.” – he pointed out.
Despite the language difficulties, the driver said he’s adapting well thanks in part to the strong support from the Maranello team: “But the team is doing well. A lot of changes, an enormous amount of work has been ongoing since my early days there to fine-tune things, like the simulator, and everyone has been really responsive and super supportive. So I’ve really appreciated that.”
New temptations
Italy has clearly made an impression on Lewis Hamilton, especially its food culture. Even a champion like him, he admitted, can’t resist pizza and pasta: “Yes, I love it. I try to stay away from pizza and pasta, which isn’t going too well, if I’m honest.” The Ferrari driver added: “I was there last week and had like three pizzas in two days. I’ve got my hookup – he keeps bringing me pizza. I text him late in the day like, ‘Hey, can I get a pizza?’ [And] he keeps bringing me one.”
