The Imola race track, commonly known as the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari, is a historic motorsports circuit located in the town of Imola, Italy. Here’s a brief history of the track:
The track was originally built in 1953 as a small, 2.4-kilometer circuit.
In 1979, the track underwent a major renovation and expansion, with the length of the circuit increasing to 5.04 kilometers and the addition of many new facilities.
The following year, the track hosted its first Formula One race, the Italian Grand Prix. The race was won by Nelson Piquet driving for Brabham.
In 1981, the track hosted the San Marino Grand Prix for the first time, which became a regular fixture on the Formula One calendar until 2006.
The track was renamed in 1988 to honor Enzo Ferrari, the founder of the Ferrari car company, and his son Dino Ferrari.
The circuit has seen many memorable moments in motorsports history, including the death of Ayrton Senna during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, which led to major safety improvements at the track and in the sport as a whole.
The track has also hosted many other major motorsports events, including MotoGP races, World Superbike championships, and endurance racing events such as the 24 Hours of Imola.
In recent years, the track has continued to be a popular destination for racing fans and enthusiasts, with a range of events and activities taking place throughout the year, alongside the most important event, the Formula 1 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Ferrari has won the San Marino Grand Prix (which was held at Imola) a total of 8 times, in 1982, 1983, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2006.
Michael Schumacher has the most wins for Ferrari at Imola, with six victories.
Ferrari has scored points in every race they have competed in at Imola, with the exception of the 1985 San Marino Grand Prix where both their drivers failed to finish.
