MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AUTODROME
The brand new Miami International Autodrome, which looks like being a very high speed venue, is 5.412 kilometres long and is made up of 19 turns. Last season Formula 1 therefore returned to Florida for the second time after the only previous Grand Prix run in the State was held at Sebring in 1959, a race in which Scuderia Ferrari did not take part.
NO NEED FOR ROAD CLOSURES
Despite the fact that it is considered a street track, in fact it has little in common with others of that ilk, as there will be no need for road closures, because the layout includes permanent facilities located around the Hard Rock Stadium, which is the home to the NFL (National Football League) team, the Miami Dolphins.
SEVERAL PASSING CHANCES
The organizers evaluated 36 possible layouts before the final design was eventually approved. It includes long straights which should make for good passing chances for the drivers, especially with the help of the drag reduction system (DRS). As with any new venue there were a lot of unknowns but it proved to be a low downforce circuit, similar to the quickest tracks on the Formula One calendar, even if it does have a very tight section from turns 11 to 16.
