How Ferrari intends to reduce gap to Red Bull amid DRS development of SF-23. How Ferrari intends to reduce gap to Red Bull.

The rumors about the market campaign that Scuderia Ferrari is carrying out to try to quickly recover the gap to the top continues without pause. After the rumors about the possible arrival of Enrico Balbo, the Maranello team continues to move, looking at potential engineers from Milton Keynes that would be willing to join Ferrari.

According to the latest rumors, in fact, the second technician that Ferrari would have snatched from Red Bull had a significant role in the development of the very powerful DRS of the RB19 single-seater. Furthermore, it seems that he is already be operating in Maranello on the development of the SF-23 car.

Ferrari: the second technician taken from Red Bull crucial in the development of the RB19 DRS.

Roberto Chinchero of motorsport.it reported the rumor and he is always a very reliable source for news regarding the Scuderia. The second technician hired by Red Bull, although is not yet known who he is, would have played a key role in the development of the RB19 DRS, a key strength of an almost perfect single-seater.

Furthermore, according to Motorsport Italy, the technician would already be operational in Maranello. In addition, he would be contributing to the development and evolution of the SF23. The hope, of course, is to exploit the know-how of the engineer in question to understand how to reduce the speed gap on the straight against Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.

The Baku race has shown a Ferrari clearly on the rise compared to the terrible start of the 2023 Formula One season. However, the two Red Bull drivers had an easy time getting rid of Charles Leclerc’s SF23 on the straight, reaching speed differences of over 30 km/h with DRS wide open.

The real key weapon that allows the RB19 to make the difference is indeed the powerful movable wing, which allows the two drivers to reach incredible top speeds, unable to be matched by the competition.

The SF-23, on the other hand, has shown it has one of the best Power Units in terms of pure power. The real difference, however, is noticeable with the DRS open. The overtakes suffered by Charles Leclerc at the Baku City Circuit are a clear demonstration of this. Being able to resort to such expertise should represent a great advantage for the Maranello team.

Finally, according to F1 expert Roberto Chincero, the presence of Laurent Mekies still at the pit wall in Baku would play in favor of Scuderia Ferrari, in a chess game with Red Bull to negotiate the gardening period of Enrico Balbo. As known for days, in fact, Laurent Mekies will become the new team principal of AlphaTauri from 2024, a minor team of the Anglo-Austrian side.

The two parties should reach an agreement in the coming weeks. Laurent Mekies should say goodbye to the Prancing Horse, while Ferrari will be able to rely on the help of the two technicians to lay the foundations for a 2024 that will not allow further missteps.
