Ferrari, in front of its home crowd, is seeking a turnaround in its season. For the Italian Grand Prix, the Maranello team has prepared a low-downforce aerodynamic package that will be combined with the highly anticipated new floor. This new component is expected to resolve the bouncing issues of the SF-24 that have affected the car’s performance since the Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Catalunya, when an aerodynamic development was introduced to ensure greater downforce.
The rear wing for the Temple of Speed is entirely new and is not an evolution of the already low-drag one used at Spa-Francorchamps. The main profile is nearly flat, whereas the one used in Belgium had a pronounced spoon shape. Additionally, the movable flap has been redesigned, replacing the centrally widened trailing edge used in Belgium with a short-chord, linear element without the nolder seen in the Ardennes.
Ferrari has developed a custom solution specifically for Monza, unlike last year when it used 2022 profiles to save costs under the budget cap. The Scuderia, aware that Monza, along with Baku and Singapore, represents one of the key opportunities for a resurgence, has decided to invest for this tricolor event.
The setup also includes a single-element beam wing, and both drivers will have fresh engines (both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will use power unit number 4 for the Italian Grand Prix weekend) to push the limits of the engine mappings in hopes of placing the Ferraris at the front of the grid.
Aerodynamic downforce will need to be generated by the car’s bodywork, specifically the anticipated new floor, while with the very low-drag wing configuration, the DRS effect will be significantly less effective here at Monza than on other tracks.
