Time is running out for Ferrari as the team must convince Charles Leclerc to stay. Sky Sport Italia reflects on when a definitive response from the Monegasque driver might arrive.
Ferrari can only wait until the end of this challenging season. After yet another disappointing year, Maranello must act decisively to return to the top by 2026. Otherwise, Charles Leclerc could be forced to seriously consider other options. Sky Sport Italia provides a timeline for the patience of the young driver from Monaco.
Following the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the question of Charles Leclerc’s future has returned to the spotlight at Ferrari. The Sky Sport Italia commentary team analyzed the Monegasque driver’s situation, highlighting how 2026 will be a decisive turning point.
“It’s an opportunity for everyone, including Leclerc and all other contenders,” explains Ivan Capelli. “This is truly the year of truth: if things go well, you can continue, otherwise it’s fair to look elsewhere to aim for a championship.”
Matteo Bobbi continues the discussion, specifying a maximum timeframe within which Charles Leclerc, and not only him, will decide whether it’s worth continuing to trust his current team. “The season needs to start,” he said.
“Then the first four to five months will be crucial to understand if the 2026 project has what it takes to win, or if once again they will just be spectators. In that case, it would be wise for him to look around. If I were in his position, I would do the same: it’s fair to explore options.”
Roberto Chinchero aligns with his colleagues’ views, adding that Charles Leclerc will not be the only driver considering his options. “I believe Leclerc is in the same situation as Max Verstappen and George Russell. At the start of a new regulatory cycle, every driver will look to join the team that offers the best chance to win,” he continued.
Finally, Carlos Vanzini emphasizes the need for Ferrari to redefine internal roles. “I believe it’s crucial to clearly define roles: a clear organizational chart is needed to establish who speaks, who has the right to decide what, who does what, and above all, who reports to whom. This is essential to build a truly solid team, especially considering Ferrari hasn’t won a title since 2007,” he concluded.
