F1 | Ferrari advised to back Lewis Hamilton over Charles Leclerc on car development for 2026. Juan Pablo Montoya advises Ferrari to prioritize Lewis Hamilton’s feedback for 2026.

With the new technical regulations debuting in 2026, a former F1 driver has offered advice to Ferrari regarding feedback from Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.

It’s been said for months now: next year will mark a new beginning for Formula 1. Teams must be ready from the start to avoid falling behind immediately. One former F1 driver, reflecting on the differences between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, gave Ferrari a clear suggestion with 2026 in mind.

Indeed, Ferrari’s two drivers have shown very different approaches regarding the SF-25 and the strategy for the upcoming season. On one hand, Charles Leclerc continues to focus on 2025 and the current car, while on the other, Lewis Hamilton already wants to shift attention toward the new regulations. This contrasting vision is creating confusion within Maranello, with Ferrari’s technical staff appearing increasingly uncertain.

The advice from a former driver
In this context, recent comments from a former driver might prove useful for a Ferrari seeking direction. “Lewis should be the priority when it comes to providing input to the engineers. Charles is better at adapting to the car’s characteristics since he has often driven cars with flaws. That’s why I believe Hamilton should be listened to more by Ferrari. They need someone who can manage the relationship between the Briton and the Maranello engineers. Lewis isn’t trying to be rude to them—he just wants the car to be designed and developed the right way,” said Juan Pablo Montoya to Casino Hawks.
