In the past few weeks we have updated you on all the changes that we will see in Formula 1 in 2022. We have talked about how the cars will change and we have anticipated some renderings about the possible color and livery of the new Ferrari car.
Regarding the most awaited car by all the fans of Scuderia Ferrari, we have also anticipated at what stage the new project 674 is: the presentation date, the program of the filming day and the first tests at Fiorano, the pre-season testing sessions in Barcelona and in Bahrain which will be used by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz to become familiar with the new ground-effect single-seater.
Finally, we focused on the words of Mattia Binotto, who has been confirmed in charge of the Racing Department and as Team Principal of Scuderia Ferrari.
Today, however, we want to report on what we have learned from sources very close to Ferrari. The Maranello engineers who are working on the 2022 project feel very confident that the Power Unit is one of the strengths of the new car. Already in the second half of 2021, the important development of “hybrid components” had made it possible to take an important step and secure the third place overall in the constructors’ classification. A second important evolutionary step of the Power Unit, finalized in recent days, concerns the more “classic” internal combustion engine (ICE) which has been largely redesigned.

Overall, the 2022 version of the Ferrari Power Unit will be more powerful but also more efficient in terms of both consumption and cooling, compared to the unit that debuted at the beginning of the 2021 Formula One season.
Hence the confidence of the Ferrari engineers to have a “true engine” at their disposal which, with the same single-seater, will surely ensure an advantage over the recent past.
On the other hand, it is difficult today to assess the distance of the Ferrari project from the competition both as regards the other mechanical parts of the car and for the aerodynamic “look” of the project itself. Aerodynamics will still play a fundamental role for the performance level of the entire package but we will be able to know and evaluate this aspect only once the ten cars hit the track all together in the official testing session in Spain (23-25 February) and then even better at the first Grand Prix in Bahrain (18-20 March).
