The 2022 Formula 1 season is just around the corner, which makes this a great moment to look at all the important dates that you should mark off on your F1 calendars.
The 2022 championship has all the prospects to become Formula 1’s most important year to date. First of all, the next campaign will include a record-breaking 23 races, with six weekends that will take place according to the Sprint Qualifying format.
Something to keep an eye on is the new United States Grand Prix around the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, while in 2022 we should also welcome the return of the Australian Grand Prix for the first time in two seasons, in a very busy and hopefully entertaining Formula 1 championship.
The 2022 Calendar
The 2022 Formula 1 campaign will kick off with the Bahrain Grand Prix, just like last year, for one of Formula 1’s many night races. The Bahrain event will take place on 20th March, after which the sport will remain in the Middle-East for the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix at the Jeddah circuit, just one week after the first Grand Prix.
Australia has been confirmed for 10th April, before Formula 1 returns to Europe: the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix will be hosted by the Imola circuit on 24th. The brand-new Miami Grand Prix will take place two weeks later on 8th May with F1 moving back to Europe two weeks later for the Spanish Grand Prix on 22nd May.
The Monaco Grand Prix will complete the second double-header of the 2020 campaign on 29th May, with a big change in format: Thursday practice was dropped for a more traditional Friday.
Azerbaijan and Canada will complete the third double-header of the year on 12th and 19th June, as Montreal returns on the calendar for the first time since 2019. The Silverstone event comes next in it’s usual early July slot on 3rd, while Austria follows a week later completing the seasons’ fourth double header.
Yet another double header comes next at France and Hungary on the 24th and 31st of July, before the usual three week summer break, giving the teams and drivers a chance to cool down after the hectic first four months.
Formula 1 returns to action at Belgium on 28th August with the Netherlands playing host to the Dutch Grand Prix on 4th September. The Italian Grand Prix at Monza rounds out the seasons’ first triple header of 2022 meaning it’s all hands on deck after the break.
After a weeks’ pause the second triple header kicks off at Russia on 25th September with Singapore making it’s return after a two year hiatus on 2nd October. The Japanese Grand Prix will round off the trio of races on 9th October – Formula 1 hasn’t raced around the Suzuka circuit since 2019.
