“He hasn’t even understood where he is”, Fred Vasseur back under fire from criticism
After Ferrari’s disappointing weekend in Baku, fresh criticism has been directed at team principal Fred Vasseur and the role he is currently playing within the Scuderia. The expectations going into the race were far removed from the eighth and ninth places ultimately secured. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix had been seen as a possible turning point, even as the weekend where Ferrari could finally achieve their first victory of the 2025 season. For this reason, the criticism aimed at Fred Vasseur quickly became a major talking point in the post-race discussions. Both the team principal and his drivers had raised hopes among the Tifosi as far back as Monza, only to be left once again searching for explanations after another disappointing result.
Criticism continues for the Ferrari team principal
This renewed wave of criticism was highlighted during the podcast Terruzzi Racconta, where respected Italian journalist Pino Allievi did not hold back in his comments on Fred Vasseur’s approach, pointing out several shortcomings. Allievi explained: “Lewis Hamilton is suffering with the current situation at Ferrari and cannot find a way to solve it. I spoke with Piero Ferrari and he also said that Lewis has not yet fully understood what Ferrari truly is. But whose responsibility was it to explain to him what the Prancing Horse represents? That duty belonged to Vasseur. Yet Vasseur himself is the first to have not yet fully understood which team he is leading. Someone should give him a course to explain Ferrari’s mechanisms and mentality.”
Despite the mounting criticism, Fred Vasseur currently has the security of a recently signed multi-year contract. However, nothing is guaranteed in Formula 1. Much will depend on where Ferrari stands in 2026, a crucial year under the new regulations. If the Scuderia should arrive at that point trailing behind their main rivals, then the position of the former Alfa Romeo boss may turn out to be far less secure than it appears today.
