The Monaco Grand Prix took place on Sunday on the streets of Monte Carlo and Carlo Vanzini has shared his thoughts on Scuderia Ferrari’s poor performance in the Principality. The SkySportF1 journalist compared the optimistic statements made by the Maranello team on Thursday with the disappointing results achieved on the track.
Here are some of his most important statements.
Carlo Vanzini began his analysis by explaining that “from the early races, I said let’s wait for Barcelona to draw a line and understand how much to pursue or how much to use this season to prepare for the next one. But what leaves me in doubt, and you are witnesses to this, is that on Friday during the show, there was great enthusiasm for Charles Leclerc’s second-fastest time and for Carlos Sainz, who was fast all day. I said to myself, ‘But I haven’t seen this Ferrari performing so well to justify the statements made on Thursday when they said they would secure pole position and victory.’ It’s true that Charles came close to taking pole, just imagine if he had and then received a three-place grid penalty.” – he pointed out.
The Italian journalist then added, “So I’m starting to think that if they arrive to say they can win, as both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have stated, and I’m starting to believe that maybe the numbers they have from the factory and the simulator are wrong. At this point, it’s better to wait for feedback on the track during the practice sessions.” – the SkySportF1 journalist continued at the end of the Monaco Grand Prix.

Finally, Carlo Vanzini concluded his remarks by stating: “I always have the feeling that they focus too much on looking at the data and not the track, as the famous ‘pistaiolo’ [track expert] Arrivabene used to say in Japan. Maybe it was Charles Leclerc who asked for the tire because he was afraid of hitting the wall, but you still had a chance and had nothing to lose.”
