Charles Leclerc has returned to the topic of Frédéric Vasseur’s contract renewal, explaining why it would have been a serious mistake for Ferrari to let their current Team Principal go.
The announcement of Fred Vasseur’s extension was warmly welcomed by the Monegasque driver, who, in a recent interview, highlighted the importance of stability within the team. With the brand-new Formula 1 regulations set to debut next season, every team will need to prepare in the most efficient way possible to adapt to the sweeping technical changes. In Charles Leclerc’s view, having a solid and stable leadership structure in place is absolutely essential to achieving strong results when the new era begins.
It is precisely for this reason that Scuderia Ferrari has decided to extend the contract of the former Alfa Romeo team boss for several more years. This move will allow Frédéric Vasseur to continue the work he began in 2023, with the long-term objective of returning the famous Maranello team to the top step of the podium and competing consistently for world titles.
Charles Leclerc happy with Ferrari’s decision
Speaking to Autosprint, Charles Leclerc made it clear that he fully supports Ferrari’s choice. “Continuity is important in this sport. When you start again from zero, you always need a period of adaptation, and that costs you time. In Formula 1, you simply cannot afford that,” the Ferrari driver explained.
Charles Leclerc went on to stress the strong working relationship he shares with Fred Vasseur, which dates back to his debut season in Formula 1. “Fred and I have a relationship that has grown naturally over the years. When I arrived at Sauber, he was there, and now we are both at Ferrari. Our relationship is very professional, but also personal. Sometimes we don’t even need to speak to understand what the other is thinking. We see things in the same way and share the same objectives,” he added.
With both driver and team principal aligned in vision and goals, Ferrari is aiming to approach the 2026 regulation changes with unity and determination, avoiding the instability that could come from a change in leadership at such a critical time. The decision to retain Fred Vasseur reflects Ferrari’s commitment to building a long-term project capable of returning the Scuderia to the fight for championships.
