Within the Monza Park, there is the Milano Golf Club and, of course, the International Circuit where Formula 1 has always been held. However, according to the Five Star Movement, a political party in Italy, (M5S), the presence of these two facilities is “absolutely unjustified,” and in recent days, a document has been presented calling for significant changes.
Monza risks becoming fully electric
The first request is to halve the size of the golf course and also reduce the entrance fee for the public to favor sports enthusiasts and people who want to play. However, the other substantial point raised by the Five Star Movement political party, as reported by ilcittadinomb.it, is to convert the historic circuit into an exclusively electric venue through a ten-year process.
If the proposal were accepted, Monza would lose Formula 1 and many other categories that race on its track throughout the year. The Five Star Movement has stated: “We would have plenty of time to better define the contractual agreements, and the circuit could become an institution for studying the organization of zero-impact sports events.” This move would be implemented to try to include the Villa Reale among the UNESCO Heritage sites and to protect biodiversity. However, it would greatly reduce the revenue generated in all sectors of tourism by events like the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix and much more.
