Traditionally, Formula 1’s major teams have driven up the expenditures in the sport, leaving the smaller teams struggling to match their budgets and consequently falling behind.
It may come as a surprise, however, that Ferrari’s team principal, Fred Vasseur, has expressed concerns about a rule change that would allow all teams to increase their spending, deeming it “risky.” What’s even more astonishing is that James Vowles, the team principal of Williams, a team that hasn’t been a financial powerhouse in Formula 1 for nearly two decades, is the main advocate for this expenditure increase.
So, what’s the reason behind this dramatic role reversal? It all revolves around Formula 1’s cost cap, particularly regarding the amount of money that teams can allocate to their facilities and infrastructure.
