Former Scuderia Ferrari team principal and current Formula 1 chief executive officer Stefano Domenicali is aware that a few F1 team bosses will not have an easy task as they attempt to adapt to their new working environments after several major changes ahead of the 2023 Formula 1 campaign.
The domino chain reaction began with Mattia Binotto handing in his resignation at the end of the previous F1 season, following a year in which Scuderia Ferrari started in an impressive manner but gradually fell behind due to a series of operational and strategic mistakes. Frederic Vasseur moved from Alfa Romeo to the Italian side, replacing Mattia Binotto as the Scuderia’s Team Principal and General Manager, while Alfa Romeo Sauber have recently confirmed a Team Representative in the form of Alessandro Alunni Bravi, already a Managing Director of the Sauber Group.
Elsewhere at Sauber, Andreas Seidl has been appointed chief executive officer after joining the team from McLaren. Andreas Seidl’s free seat at McLaren has been filled by former Ferrari Performance Engineer Andrea Stella.
There were even more changes: Jost Capito left Williams at the end of the 2022 Formula 1 season, while British motorsport engineer James Vowles, who had been working for Mercedes since 2010, and was most recently Motorsport Strategy Director, was confirmed as the new Williams Team Principal in view of the next Formula 1 championship. For some of those in new positions at the top of F1 Racing Divisions, Stefano Domenicali admitted to being curious to see how they will be able to manage the move from a large/small side to the opposite kind of team.

“What will be interesting is to see how they will react with different caps [on],” Stefano Domenicali confirmed in a recent discussion for Sky Sports F1 – “Because, when you wear a cap of a small team, you have to protect certain things. When you are on the other side, you should have the same type of vision, to protect the sport. But, of course, you’re managing a big team. So I’m sure that Fred [Vasseur] is starting this new experience with an incredible way to show that he can be effective as soon as possible. As I said, the dimension of the team is totally different.” – the former Ferrari boss explained.
“[For] Andreas, [it’s] the other way around. For sure, the changes that other teams are doing, thinking of McLaren, will have an effect, and it will be important to see how the different relationships will be wearing different caps. That’s something that I’m fascinated to start to learn [about] in the next days. Of course, I’m in contact everyday with everyone, because it’s important. I have the duty to give the vision to the sport and share that with the teams. And I will say that everyone, despite the caps, [is trying] to work for the better of the sport, not only for the better of the team.” – Formula 1 chief executive officer Stefano Domenicali concluded.
