New year same old story, one could say. As already happened in April last year, the Mission Winnow brand initially disappeared from the list of Ferrari sponsors and then reappeared a few days later. In fact, at the end of last week, the logo had stopped appearing on the official website of Scuderia Ferrari, while today it has once again reappeared, albeit marginally compared to the past.
A very similar situation had occurred last year even if, in that case, everything was linked to a collaboration contract which expired and was renewed with a slight delay. It now remains to be understood if and how the Mission Winnow brand will have a space on the livery of the SF23 challenger that will be officially launched tomorrow and will take part in the next Formula 1 championship, which will start on March 3 at the Bahrain International Circuit.
In recent seasons, the now recognizable MW symbol went on to occupy a large part of the engine cover of the Maranello cars on some occasions even with particular colours. On the SF21 the sponsor linked to Philip Morris International was in fact green. Behind this choice there was the company’s desire to make Formula 1 fans aware of issues related to the environment and sustainability.
The partnership, which dates back to 2018, has never been fully approved by Formula 1: the top management of the sport sees in this agreement the desire to advertise tobacco on the single-seater, a practice now prohibited since the 2006 Formula 1 season. For this reason, at several Grands Prix during the previous years, the logo was removed from the car in order to avoid any possible controversy.
