Ex-F1 team founder and managing director feels “2026 FIA regulations could mark a civil death of F1”. Giancarlo Minardi on the significant changes coming for the FIA regulation for the 2026 Formula 1 season.

The significant changes coming with the FIA regulation modifications from the 2026 Formula 1 season are always an excellent topic for discussion, according to Giancarlo Minardi. Curiosity and concerns continue to grow even though there are still two years before the new regulations come into effect.

The founder and managing director of the now-defunct Minardi Formula One team expressed his views on this matter in an interview for the “A ruota libera” podcast by F1News. After analyzing Red Bull’s chances of confirming their success in 2024 and identifying potential adversaries capable of challenging the reigning world champions, he shifted the focus to the new regulations.

“The car of 2023 marked a crucial transition, and that of 2024 should, consequently, represent a real evolution. Conversely, the one from 2025 will not have significant changes compared to previous cars because it is mandatory to start working on the 2026 car only in ’25,” stated the former head of the Minardi team.

Most likely, the maximum development of these new cars will be seen during the upcoming season since 2025 will effectively be a year of significant transition, with a much more forward-looking perspective than the present. “The maximum effort of this generation of cars will be this year,” added Giancarlo Minardi.

“2026 is far away, but at the same time, it’s closer than it may seem. It will mark a significant change both in terms of the engine and aerodynamics. It could be the civil death of this sport or the solution to mark the beginning of a new era, a great revolution, or even a new dominance. The unbeatable teams have almost always emerged from these revolutions and regulation changes. So, this time too, what happened in the past could occur, but we need to see which team will be the strongest to potentially open the door to a new dominance,” the Italian entrepreneur concluded.
