In the span of a few days, Haas has undergone a true revolution: the American team has lost both Technical Director Simone Resta and Team Principal Gunther Steiner (the latter was dismissed in an unpleasant manner). Their future is still uncertain, but it’s challenging to envision these figures staying away from the racing world, given their significant stature. While they have ties to the Ferrari world, Italian journalist Franco Nugnes, the director of Motorsport Italia, finds it difficult to see a role for them in Maranello.
“I don’t see Gunther Steiner in Ferrari; it’s not his role. I am sure we will see him return to the circus; he is a charismatic character who has built his own caricature thanks to Netflix. But he is also someone who, from scratch, conceived the concept of Haas as a ‘Little Ferrari,’ interpreting the rules. So, he is a very creative mind, and I expect to see him somewhere. Where, I don’t know, since the current trend is to distance managers and appoint only engineers as team principals,” said the journalist in a video on official YouTube channel of of Motorsport Italy.
“As for Simone Resta, it seems to me that he is on vacation and has not returned to Ferrari yet. I imagine that upon his return, they will make him some proposals, perhaps not within the Scuderia, and then he will evaluate whether it’s right to stay in Maranello, where he has a valid contract, or if he will have requests elsewhere. He is one of the few technicians still capable of having a complete global vision of a Formula 1 car,” Franco Nugnes concluded.
