Haas rookie Oliver Bearman has caught the attention of F1 legend Damon Hill with a string of impressive performances, which have reportedly placed the young driver firmly on Ferrari’s radar as a potential successor to Lewis Hamilton. The 20-year-old British driver, currently on loan from Ferrari to Haas through the 2026 season, has shown remarkable maturity and consistency during his early years in Formula 1.
Bearman has long been viewed as a natural candidate to replace Lewis Hamilton once the seven-time world champion eventually steps away from the Scuderia. His rising profile has only intensified as Hamilton himself described his 2025 campaign at Ferrari as a “nightmare,” struggling to secure a podium in his first season with the Italian team. With Ferrari’s concerns over Hamilton’s adaptation to the SF-25, discussions about Ollie Bearman moving to Maranello sooner rather than later have begun to circulate.
Consistency and performance put Bearman on Ferrari’s radar
Ferrari’s interest in Ollie Bearman has grown not only because of his raw talent but also due to his ability to extract maximum performance from a car that is far from the front of the grid. In the first 21 rounds of the 2025 season, the Ferrari junior has accumulated 40 points, outperforming his Haas teammate Esteban Ocon, who has 30 points. This performance has helped Haas maintain eighth place in the constructors’ championship and has demonstrated Ollie Bearman’s skill at capitalizing on every opportunity.
Damon Hill praised Ollie Bearman’s capacity to “make the best use of what he’s got,” highlighting the young driver’s racecraft and adaptability. Hill noted that the Ferrari Driver Academy member consistent point finishes—scoring in five of the past seven rounds and achieving a career-best P4 in Mexico City—underline his readiness for a potential top-tier F1 drive in the near future.
Hill: Bearman could attract interest from multiple frontrunners
Speaking to Pit Lane Chronicle, Damon Hill emphasized that Bearman’s performances could see several leading F1 teams considering him for future seats. The former Formula 1 driver suggested that while Haas provides an excellent platform for development, Ollie Bearman’s results are likely to put him on the shortlist of teams vying for young talent. “He’s been shining, hasn’t he? He’s been really going well. That’s been impressive to watch. He’s been making the best use of what he’s got, so it’s been brilliant to see. He’s put his hat in the ring for a top drive somewhere,” Hill explained.
Ferrari aware of competition for Bearman’s services
Ferrari appear to share Hill’s assessment and are reportedly concerned that rival F1 teams may attempt to recruit Bearman if the Scuderia do not secure his future in Maranello. The Haas loan allows Ollie Bearman to hone his skills and adapt to Formula 1’s competitive environment without the immediate pressure of a front-running car, unlike some of his peers, such as 2024 F2 teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who joined Mercedes’ top program directly.
Additionally, Ollie Bearman will gain valuable experience adapting to the 2026 F1 regulations while at Haas, potentially giving him a competitive edge if he moves to a leading team in the future. However, Ferrari could face a difficult decision if Lewis Hamilton adjusts better than expected to the upcoming 2026 regulations, which are predicted to produce cars more suited to his driving style. In that case, integrating the Briton into the Scuderia’s long-term plans may require careful timing and strategic planning.
Bearman’s path to Ferrari could be accelerated by Hamilton’s struggles
Oliver Bearman’s progression may be accelerated if Lewis Hamilton continues to struggle with adapting to Ferrari’s machinery. With his combination of raw talent, adaptability, and consistency, the Briton represents a potential solution to Ferrari’s ongoing performance concerns, making him one of the most closely watched young drivers in Formula 1 heading into the 2026 season.
