A tough blow for Ferrari fans!
Charles Leclerc was able to participate in the first practice session for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but only after the Maranello team installed a new energy store in his car. Unfortunately, this marks his third energy store of the 2024 Formula 1 season, exceeding the permitted limit of two. As a result, Charles Leclerc will face a 10-place grid penalty for Sunday’s race, dealing a significant setback to his weekend prospects.
This development couldn’t come at a worse time for Ferrari, as they are locked in a fierce battle with McLaren for the Constructors’ Championship. Trailing by 21 points, this penalty adds another layer of difficulty to their pursuit of the title leaders.
The official announcement came shortly after Free Practice 1: Ferrari is set to face an already challenging weekend in Abu Dhabi. Charles Leclerc will serve a 10-place grid penalty after the team had to install an additional battery pack, forcing the Scuderia into a grid demotion for the Grand Prix.
This development further complicates the ambitions of the Maranello team during a critical phase of the championship. Here is the official FIA statement.
