During an interview, Red Bull boss Christian Horner had the opportunity to express his unfiltered thoughts on Scuderia Ferrari’s management. The Red Bull Team Principal, who at one point was even supposed to become the Team Principal of the Maranello-based team, spoke about Ferrari on a podcast.
Specifically, Christian Horner reportedly spoke about a “boulder” that Ferrari carries compared to other teams. The interviewer asked what is wrong with Ferrari. “They have manufacturing ability, they have the budget, they have the drivers. You look at that team and think to yourself, ‘Could I go there and change something, dammit?'” Here, Christian Horner talks about an existing issue that is often not considered. “I think the biggest problem for Ferrari is that it’s a national team. That’s its problem; it needs to go back to being a racing team.” – he pointed out.
But what does “national team” mean to Christian Horner? “You know, it’s an Italian institution, and there are too many people in management, everyone has input and a say. One of our strengths at Red Bull is that we move quickly: we make decisions and stick to them, and if we’ve made the wrong decision, we change the decision. While I think at Ferrari the newspapers have such an influence on what happens there. So, there’s a lot of pressure when you’re at Ferrari.” – the Red Bull man added.
Christian Horner’s statement seems to refer to the fact that Ferrari often “fears” change, always opting for traditional solutions that, in the long run, do not pay off. Perhaps the Scuderia should look at other teams, taking notes on how to engage with today’s fans.
