Rumors never fail to circulate in the Formula 1 paddock, and on the eve of the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix, a piece of news emerged that’s bound to spark discussion: according to several sources, Ferrari made an exploratory inquiry about Christian Horner, Red Bull’s team principal, to assess the possibility of him joining the team. Christian Horner responded in his own style in front of a smiling Flavio Briatore.
The approach, or rather the inquiry, is said to have taken place in the weeks leading up to the Barcelona event. However, a move to Ferrari was immediately deemed highly unlikely, considering Christian Horner’s long-standing relationship with the Austrian team.
A Red Bull pillar since 2005
Christian Horner, at the helm of Red Bull Racing since the team’s founding in 2005, has led them to 8 drivers’ titles and 6 constructors’ championships. A central figure in the Milton Keynes project, he is under contract until 2030, making an early departure virtually impossible.
During Friday’s press conference in Barcelona, Christian Horner openly addressed the rumors: “Look, I mean, obviously it’s always flattering to be associated with other teams, but my commitment is 100% with Red Bull and always has been, and it certainly will be long term.”
“There’s always a bunch of speculation in this business, about people going here, going there, whatever, and I think people in the team know exactly what the situation is.”
With his usual ironic tone, the British team principal also lightened the mood with a joke that drew laughter in the press room: “My Italian is worse than Flavio [Briatore]’s English, so how the hell would that work?”
A remark that playfully put to rest a topic that had spread through the paddock in just a few hours. At least for now, a Christian Horner-Ferrari union remains a distant notion, while Red Bull can continue to count for years to come on its symbolic figure on the pit wall.
