Charles Leclerc sees positives after mixed Friday in Barcelona: “Not too far off”. Charles Leclerc experienced a mixed Friday at the 2025 Spanish GP.

Charles Leclerc, two contrasting practice sessions in Barcelona

For Ferrari and Charles Leclerc, Friday at Montmeló had two sides. One was positive and promising, with FP1 suggesting Ferrari could potentially be a key player at least in terms of race pace. The other — less flattering and perhaps more realistic — came during the second free practice session, where the Monegasque was exactly half a second slower than Oscar Piastri.

“The feeling was horrible from the first to the last corner, we were nowhere,” Charles Leclerc vented over the radio after FP2. His words reflected disappointment and a lack of understanding for such a sudden drop in performance within just a few hours.

Charles Leclerc’s comments

Later, with a cooler head, Charles Leclerc offered a more positive take on his Friday: “It’s very hot on track, which makes things a bit more difficult because grip isn’t as good as we’d like. Still, it was a better day than expected because there’s more performance in the car than I thought. I hope we can extract more ahead of qualifying.”

“There’s still a lot of work to do, but it seems we’re not too far off. Tonight we’ll focus on some key areas to try and get the most out of the car for Saturday.” – the Ferrari driver concluded.

Leclerc is a very good driver and admire him but if he had the chance to see the free pratice from the outside, I am sure he wouldn´t say that, unless anything was hidden and we couldn´t see it. Even if we don´t look the timesheets, the behavour of the car seen from the outside was the worst from the 3/4 four top team, so more or less the same from the previous races, except from Monaco which is not an example for the rest of the year. MCLaren & Red Bull are clearly ahead. It is time to say face to face to their sponsors that this car is no good and they need to shift to the 2026 car. This year is a fiasco and the next ones will be also because they are saying what the sponsors want to hear not making what would be wise to do it. This year is over, but worst than that Ferrari has nobody inside the team who knows how to make a winning car and is not able to convince any top Engineer to go to Maranello. It is time to leave the F1. This image is hurting severly the brand. There are only to ways to do it….Either They install their team in UK being able to recruit more talented people to the team or they should leave F1. Everything else will lead Ferrari nowhere. Loic Serra is a medium engineer and has nobody around him capable enough to design a winning car. Even if it is true that Ferrari is not far off, they shouldn´t be behind, but in front of, McLaren & Red Bul to recover any points . Everything else doesn´t matter. I have any serious doubt about a position above the 4th place in the race and qualy again Ferrari is figthing for the 2nd or the 3rd row….Very sad.

      Oh Egroj,

Something, I forgot to mention. The next year Ferrari has got to worry about Ashton Martin is the mix as well. What use to be 4 way race is becoming a 5 way race OR maybe Ferrari is aiming to be THE TOP team of the midfield guys. Ferrari is really waisting a top driver like Charles Leclerc time, for 6 years already, they haven’t delivered him a race winning machine, add 2 more and that was Kimi last reign in Ferrari colours

    Egroj,

Brilliantly said mate. I couldn’t agree more. The last time Ferrari won a championship was in 2008, with Kimi. For 18yrs they tried to build racing winning car, with over half dozen team principles, but all of them failed. EIGHTEEN YEARS, that a.very long period.

I agree with you, either set up a satellite office in the UK get a few top notch engineers and OR go home, which they are already. Next year things start from a blank canvas. After the Horner scandal, most engineers jumped to Mclaren ex. Rob Smeadley who worked along side Newey, Newey himself chose Ashton Martin (in both guys situation to be based in UK) this year NEWEY has quiet at Ashton, he doesn’t want to touch the AMR25, because he is busy working on the 2026 car.

Ferrari can dream on about having Horner (maybe I could be wrong) but he won’t move to Italy) he already mention this in previous article the political weight that comes along with it, it’s not for him. So what’s Ferrari left with The Chef,. Loic Sierra, a few guys from Maranello and hope. And if you don’t deliver the goods, oh Vasseur,.counnt on it you head is chopping blocks. That will leave Ferrari to source someone like Steiner or Otmarr Szafnauer. Good luck, chaps
