Charles Leclerc has explained why he decided to skip FP1 at the Austrian Grand Prix, as Dino Beganovic will take the wheel of his Ferrari.
After sitting out Friday practice in Montreal, Charles Leclerc will also miss FP1 at the Austrian GP, with Beganovic driving his SF-25. The Monegasque driver has clarified the reasoning behind this choice.
The announcement came directly from the Italian team’s official channels, although the Tifosi did not fully appreciate the decision. Some fans felt that, given the time lost in Canada, it would have been better for Charles Leclerc to be in the car throughout the entire weekend.
However, the decision is entirely linked to regulatory requirements, as each driver must hand over their car to a rookie for at least two practice sessions during the season.
Charles Leclerc explains why he’s skipping FP1
Charles Leclerc, along with the Maranello team, chose the Red Bull Ring for this session, and during media day in Spielberg, he revealed the reasons behind it.
“At the start of the year, we looked at the calendar and decided to skip FP1 here in Austria. The track is relatively short, with only eight corners. That allows us to avoid losing too much time getting into the rhythm, even if we miss one practice session. Of course, staying in the garage is never ideal and I’d prefer to be on track, but it’s fine. FP2 will be enough to find the right pace,” Charles Leclerc stated ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix weekend, which takes place at the 4.318-kilometre Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.
