Charles Leclerc commented on the rumors suggesting he was ready to leave Ferrari at the end of the season.
The Montreal weekend began with news of a possible departure of both Charles Leclerc and Fred Vasseur from Ferrari at the end of the season. On one hand, the Team Principal could be replaced by the ownership due to the lack of results; on the other, the Monegasque driver is reportedly tired of driving a car that isn’t championship-worthy.
However, number 16 recently renewed his contract with the Maranello team, reaffirming his love for the squad that allowed him to fulfill his dream of reaching Formula 1. For this reason, it seems rather unlikely to see him leaving the Scuderia in the short term, especially considering the lack of valid alternatives.
Charles clarifies the rumors about his future
Nevertheless, the rumors quickly spread worldwide and became one of the main topics of the Canadian Thursday, during which those involved wanted to set the record straight. “I won’t say anything about offers I may have received or anything like that. The only certain thing is that I love Ferrari and, as I’ve always said, no matter what offers may be out there, I don’t care because I love this team. I want to win, and I want to do it wearing red. I will give everything I have to bring Ferrari back to the top, and I hope it happens with me behind the wheel,” Charles Leclerc told Sky Sport ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend.
“As for Fred, of course these are not rumors we enjoy hearing. Right now we’re focused on the track, doing our best to put an end to these speculations. But yes, I have nothing to comment on. I believe in him, and Fred has always believed in me. I think he has everything it takes to bring Ferrari back to the top, and we hope we can do it together,” the Monegasque added, speaking about the future of the current Team Principal.
Clearly, both situations will need to be monitored in the coming weeks, with the summer break possibly becoming the perfect occasion to ignite the driver market — and beyond.
