Charles Leclerc and Ferrari officially announced a new contract extension today, further strengthening one of the most enduring partnerships in modern Formula 1. The agreement reinforces the long-term relationship between the Monegasque driver, the Scuderia and the millions of Ferrari supporters who have followed his journey since his arrival in Maranello.
The announcement comes during Monaco Grand Prix week, a fitting moment for Charles Leclerc to confirm his commitment to Ferrari. With the Scuderia hoping to capitalize on what could be one of its strongest opportunities of the season, the contract extension provides another major boost for both the team and its fans.
While the renewal itself was expected by many inside the Formula 1 paddock, one question immediately emerged: how long will Charles Leclerc remain a Ferrari driver under the terms of the new agreement?
A relationship that always seemed destined
After making his Formula 1 debut with Alfa Romeo, Charles Leclerc quickly emerged as one of Ferrari’s brightest prospects. Having been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy since 2016, his path toward a race seat with the Scuderia appeared almost inevitable.
Since joining Ferrari in 2019, the Monegasque driver has worn no colours other than red. His arrival in Maranello fulfilled not only his own childhood dream but also that of his late godfather Jules Bianchi and his father, both of whom played important roles in his journey to Formula 1.
Although the partnership has produced memorable victories, pole positions and podium finishes, it has also been marked by frustration. Ferrari has often struggled to provide Charles Leclerc with a car capable of fighting consistently for a world championship across an entire season. Nevertheless, his belief in the project has remained unwavering.
Charles Leclerc: “Being a Ferrari driver is a dream”
Following the announcement, Charles Leclerc shared an emotional message about what Ferrari means to him.
“I couldn’t be happier to continue this journey with Scuderia Ferrari HP, which for me is much more than a team. It is the team I have always loved and dreamed of being part of since I was a child and, after all these years, it has become a second family to me.
“Together we have shared incredible moments and more difficult ones, but I believe in the Scuderia more than ever and I am deeply grateful to be able to continue fighting for our common goal, which is to bring the world championship back to Maranello.
“Being a Ferrari driver is a dream, but it is also a responsibility that I never take for granted. I will continue to give everything I have to bring the Scuderia back where it belongs, at the top, for everyone who works in Maranello and especially for the fans, whose passion is the beating heart of this team.”
How long is Charles Leclerc’s new Ferrari contract?
According to Ferrari’s official statement, Charles Leclerc is already second only to Michael Schumacher in both Formula 1 race starts and pole positions for the Scuderia. Beyond the statistics, he has developed a unique bond with the team and its global fanbase, built on shared ambition, loyalty and a constant desire to improve.
As for the duration of the contract, Ferrari has only described the agreement as “multi-year,” choosing not to disclose a specific end date. However, reports from AutoRacer.it suggest that the new deal could effectively cover the 2027 and 2028 Formula 1 seasons, while also including extension options for additional years.
If those reports prove accurate, both Charles Leclerc and Ferrari appear committed to remaining together at least until the end of the current regulatory cycle. Such a commitment would further underline the confidence both parties have in the long-term potential of the project and their shared ambition of returning the Formula 1 world championship to Maranello.
