Charles Leclerc arrived in the Melbourne paddock fresh from his wedding, ring on his finger, and ready for the opening round of the 2026 Formula 1 season.
Leclerc shares his thoughts on the season
The Ferrari driver spoke about both his personal milestone and the challenge ahead: “It was an unforgettable day. I got straight on the plane after the ceremony, so I’m arriving here full of enthusiasm. It was an intimate ceremony with just our families, and we’ll organize a proper celebration with all our friends soon,” Charles Leclerc explained ahead of the Australian Grand Prix weekend at the Albert Park circuit.
Turning to racing, he added: “During the tests we were able to learn a lot about the SF-26, and now we just need to find out exactly where we stand compared to our rivals. I believe Mercedes has kept a bit of their potential hidden.”
Expectations for Melbourne and 2026
Charles Leclerc stressed that the verdict in Australia will not be definitive: “Here, practically everyone will have almost completely new cars. In any case, 2026 will be a battle of developments, because that’s always the case in the first year of a new regulation. We are aware that we’ve worked well so far, and now we’ll see what our true potential is.”
Charles Leclerc’s “wings of enthusiasm” come at a pivotal moment for both his personal life and his career at Maranello. With the field expected to bring significantly evolved cars to the first race, the true performance hierarchy remains a mystery that only the lights out in Melbourne can solve. Charles Leclerc’s caution regarding Mercedes’ “hidden potential” suggests that Ferrari is preparing for a year where being the fastest at the opener is only the first step in a much longer game.
