After his dramatic qualifying session for the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, it was unclear for a long time from which place Lando Norris would be starting the race on Sunday. Considering the state of his car he ran the risk of having to change both his chassis and engine, thus risking a grid penalty or pit lane start. A new update now confirms that so far only the gearbox needs to be replaced.
Taking into consideration the necessity to replace the gearbox, Lando Norris will receive a five-place grid penalty and will start the Belgian Grand Prix from the fourteenth place on Sunday, as reported by motorsport.com.
This means that Scuderia Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz gain another position for the starting grid at circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, after also advancing a place as a result of the penalty received by Valtteri Bottas for causing a crash in the Hungarian Grand Prix. Charles will start the event from ninth place, while Carlos will begin the race from P11, both ahead of one McLaren, which could help the Maranello team maximize its chances of not losing too many points against McLaren in the fight for third place in the 2021 Formula 1 Constructor Standings.
