The decisions made by the race stewards didn’t sit well with the Spanish driver of Scuderia Ferrari, as Carlos Sainz sarcastically commented on social media about the penalties for track limits that were handed out after the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring on Sunday.
The final (but truly final) result of the Spielberg Grand Prix came over five hours after the checkered flag. The Austrian event at the Red Bull Ring was in fact marked by chaos surrounding track limits, which resulted in penalties for several drivers, including Carlos Sainz. The Spanish driver responded to the stewards’ decision with sarcasm.
The witty reaction from the Scuderia Ferrari driver came on Instagram. In the comments section of the Formula 1 post on the updated Top 10 after penalties were given, the #55 driver simply commented, “Well done,” accompanied by a sarcastic applause emoji.
This comment, enriched with a sarcastic applause emoji, echoes his perplexed post-race statements. In the mixed zone, speaking to the microphones of Sky Sport Italia while still in fourth place, the Ferrari driver had said: “When 20 Formula 1 drivers, who are the best at doing this, are not capable of following these rules, it’s clear that they are too strict. It also means that the FIA isn’t helping us.” – the Spaniard pointed out.

The former McLaren and Renault driver, who was fighting for a podium position until the final laps of the Austrian Grand Prix, ended up in sixth place on Sunday evening. Carlos Sainz’s name is among the nine drivers who received additional seconds on their race time during the Spielberg afternoon, as the Ferrari man received a 10-second penalty after the race and dropped from P4 to P6.
