Those who are used to behind the scenes stories and like to foresee controversial scenarios have been having some busy days, considering the change at the top of the Ferrari Formula 1 Racing Division.
The transition from Mattia Binotto to Frederic Vasseur in the role of team principal, in fact, does not simply involve a change at the top of the F1 department, but also a potential change in the relationship between the management and the drivers. In fact, it is no mystery that Carlos Sainz highly appreciated by Mattia Binotto, as the Italian manager strongly desired to sign him from McLaren when John Elkann did not want to offer a contract extension to Sebastian Vettel.
Ay the same time it is also known that Frederic Vasseur greatly respects Charles Leclerc, a driver with whom he won in GP3 and who he launched in Formula 1 with Sauber four years ago.
So, will Frederic Vasseur’s arrival lead to a clear definition of the hierarchy among the Scuderia Ferrari drivers, a factor that has been totally lacking under Mattia Binotto’s management? In order not to take this risk, Carlos Sainz has already spoken to the new team principal:
“Yesterday I called him, I had my first contact with him as a Ferrari driver. I know he will do well. It’s a change that I hope is positive. Every time a new person joins the team there is always more motivation to do well and the team will try to take another step forward. Ferrari is a huge company, there are 1,300 people and we have to give Fréd time. He will need time to understand what changes the team needs, but I have heard very good things about him and I know him personally because he wanted to sign me to go to Renault, we had contacts and negotiations.” – the Spanish driver said.

Next season will be fundamental for both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, and knowing the team principal is certainly an advantage in possibly gaining the status of first driver, a hierarchy that the Ferrari fans have always wanted and never had in the last few years.
The contracts of both drivers will expire in 2024: it is likely that Frederic Vasseur will choose only one driver to bet on, while the other will have to support his teammate when needed.
