One of Carlos Sainz’s long-time staff members has joined perennial rival Max Verstappen: here’s the Spanish driver’s reaction. Starting from the 2024 Formula One season, alongside Max Verstappen, we will see a familiar face from Ferrari and Carlos Sainz’s team. Rupert Manwaring, the new personal trainer for Max Verstappen, has worked for eight years alongside the Spanish driver, number 55.
Manwaring began collaborating with the Spanish driver in his debut Formula 1 season in 2015 when Carlos Sainz raced for Toro Rosso and would become Max Verstappen‘s teammate. Now, after years, the personal trainer and the three-time world champion will not only find themselves in the same team but also in close contact.
The Dutchman chose the former member of Carlos Sainz’s team after Bradley Scanes, his longtime athletic trainer, chose to step away from the world of Formula 1 to pursue new challenges.
As of January 1, there has been an official handover between Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen. The Ferrari driver wanted to pay tribute to the eight years spent with Rupert Manwaring with a post on his social media profiles with a somewhat nostalgic tone.
“Eight years can’t be summarized in a video, but here’s a hint of what these years mean to me,” wrote the Spanish driver. “2023 was Rupert’s last year in service of Team 55, and I wouldn’t know how to thank you for all your work and support during these years. Not only have we trained together and fought for the same goals, but we’ve also had a lot of fun… Wishing you all the best, Rupert!”

Rupert Manwaring’s Post
Rupert Manwaring also wanted to thank Carlos Sainz and the entire team with a very affectionate and nostalgic Instagram post. “I didn’t get to tell you during our collaboration, but I certainly learned as much from you as you did from me. It’s been a crazy ride, and we’ve grown together,” wrote Max Verstappen’s new personal trainer.

“It’s also thanks to you, as my teammate, that I met my wonderful wife and the mother of my daughter, the true boss of Team 55. Thanks to you, I became a better coach. It was a privilege to see you grow from a raw talent to a Ferrari driver and a race winner,” concluded the former member of Carlos Sainz’s staff.
