Carlos Sainz criticizes Drive to Survive with an excellent comparison. Drive to Survive does not enjoy a good reputation among Formula 1 fans,.

Carlos Sainz, Ferrari 2024

Scuderia Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz is just one of the many Formula 1 drivers who do not like the way Drive to Survive distorts reality. In Formula 1, there are rivalries and battles on the track, yet Netflix has turned them into real power struggles between good and bad drivers, as if it were a Hollywood blockbuster.

On the Nude Projects podcast, where he recounted his life and career, Ferrari’s #55 shared his opinion on the docuseries: “Netflix has created these battles. They exist, but they exaggerate them.”

When the two hosts asked him if he had talked about it with the other drivers, Carlos Sainz discussed his relationship with Lando Norris. Regarding how it was portrayed on screen:

“We are colleagues who get along very well. We are rivals and colleagues. In the fourth season, they made this episode where we seem like arch-enemies.” Highlighting how many things were exaggerated, the Spaniard made an excellent comparison:

“I mean, it looks like we have to kill each other! We were teammates, and it seemed like Lando Norris was the young driver who came to dethrone Carlos Sainz because they hated each other to death. Totally Hollywood.” – the Spaniard pointed out.

He and the former McLaren driver then compared notes, as he explained on the podcast: “We watched the episode and thought the same thing. We laughed our heads off. Even a true fan who has followed Formula 1 for a long time, who knows the details, and knows how this sport works, must have had a good laugh.” – he added.

Carlos Sainz is convinced that the Netflix producers “knew they had to take a sentence from here and another from there and create a rivalry.”
