F1 renews with Canada: racing will continue in Montréal until 2035 for the historic Canadian GP that has shaped the history of the premier motorsport category
Formula 1 will continue to race at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve at least until 2035. This was officially announced by F1 with the renewal of the Canadian GP in collaboration with the governments of Canada and Québec and the City of Montréal. The new agreement further extends the Canadian Grand Prix’s presence on the world calendar, reaffirming the central role of one of the most iconic stops of the championship.
The Canadian GP is the longest-standing Formula 1 race outside of Europe, with the first edition held in 1967 and the 54th taking place in 2025. Montréal has hosted the race since 1978 on a circuit named after the legendary Gilles Villeneuve, known for its technical chicanes, historic hairpin, and the feared Wall of Champions.

The agreement also includes a calendar date adjustment: starting in 2026, the Grand Prix will be moved to a spring slot to rationalize the F1 calendar. This is a further confirmation of the commitment by local institutions to support the event.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, commented enthusiastically: “Montréal is a city full of energy and passionate fans. It is an honor to confirm that we will continue racing here until 2035. I thank the promoter Octane Racing Group for its continued investments in the circuit and all local institutions for the collaboration that has made this event what it is today.”
Jean-Philippe Paradis, President of the Canadian GP and executive at Bell Media, added: “Our goal is to deliver ten years of top-level racing while promoting the best of Canada, Québec, and Montréal. With the support of institutions and Formula 1, we will continue to grow the event through sport, entertainment, and technology.”
Canadian and municipal political authorities also expressed satisfaction with the renewal, emphasizing the tourism and media value of the GP: “The Canadian Grand Prix is the most important event in the country and one of the most appreciated worldwide. This multi-year partnership ensures economic benefits and global visibility for our city.”
With this announcement, Canada strengthens its bond with Formula 1 and with fans around the world, projecting Montréal towards an even more ambitious future in the international racing landscape.
