If Abu Dhabi doesn’t bring great moments for those racing on a red and Italian machine, the same certainly can’t be said for the events in Valencia. Pecco Bagnaia is the MotoGP world champion, and Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc discovers it live on TV.
The last Sunday of November brings great joys for Italian sports. In tennis, Italy brings home the Davis Cup in Malaga, and in MotoGP, Francesco Bagnaia’s Ducati repeats the triumph of 2022. Missing from the list – in the night of Abu Dhabi – is Italy in Formula 1. In the setting of the Yas Marina circuit, the Prancing Horse fails to overtake Mercedes in the constructors’ championship and has to settle for the lowest step of the world podium.
Charles Leclerc, asked to comment on the 2023 Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which nevertheless ended as well as one could hope for him, speaks to Canal+ microphones.
The Monegasque is in conversation with the journalist from the French television when he learns about Pecco’s world triumph. “I tried everything – Charles admitted – I will say it only once, but I’m sorry that an opponent received a penalty.”
“Disappointed, yes, but as Fred said, the important thing is that it ends on a positive note. We are heading in the right direction for next year,” explained the Ferrari driver before the interviewer’s crucial statement.
“A red bike is the world champion!” the French journalist reveals to the Ferrari driver.

Charles Leclerc’s gaze reveals the emotion of someone who now has an indissoluble bond with red and the Italian tricolor. “It’s Bagnaia, right? Super!” exclaims the Monegasque.
An Italian red machine is the world champion: in Charles Leclerc’s eyes, the joy shared with the jubilant Bagnaia blends with the dream that the Ferrari driver has nurtured since childhood – the dream that perhaps, one day, that Italian red turning gold could be his Ferrari.
