The first day on track, which will officially kick off the Mexican Grand Prix weekend (scheduled to take place from October 25 to 27 at the 4.304-kilometre Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City), will undergo a change: the second free practice session will extend from the usual 60 minutes to 90, just like it used to be until 2020. For teams and drivers, the afternoon in Mexico City will feel like a true return to the past.
Why this decision? The reason is quickly revealed: the teams will participate in a test specifically requested by Formula 1 official tire supplier Pirelli, during which they will be asked to try out the Soft compound that will be used in the next F1 season, the last under the current regulatory cycle before the official start of the revolution planned for the 2026 Formula 1 championship.
