The drivers, like participants in the Hunger Games: that’s what unfolded during the European night to inaugurate Formula 1’s return to Las Vegas, forty years after the last edition held in the Caesars Palace parking lot in 1982. The teams also wanted to capture the moment, filming the various drivers backstage and posting the best videos on social media.
Las Vegas GP: Behind the scenes of the opening ceremony
The first video posted on social media and quickly gone viral is the work of Haas, with Fernando Alonso captured blowing kisses at a distance to Nico Hulkenberg, waiting to be elevated onto the enormous stage set up for the opening ceremony.

The Enstone team also published glimpses of various concerts and fireworks that accompanied the opening ceremony, which literally divided public opinion.

“Here it’s 99% show and 1% sporting event,” said Max Verstappen regarding the huge investment made by Formula 1 to offer the best possible show to the fans.
“I don’t have many emotions, to be honest. I just want to focus on the performance. I don’t like all the things that are going on. I know they are part of the event, but they are not in my interest. There’s no problem, but it’s just not my kind of thing. Whether I like it or not depends on me, but I don’t intend to pretend.”
“I express only my opinion on positive and negative things; that’s my way of being. Some people like the show a bit more, but I don’t like it at all. I grew up watching only the performance aspect, and that’s how I see it too. I like being in Las Vegas, but not so much for the races.”
Finally, Ferrari also wanted to celebrate the moment:
