First it was Max Verstappen, and now it could be Oscar Piastri or Lando Norris—yet Charles Leclerc’s moment in Formula 1 has not arrived. Despite that, his heart remains fully devoted to Ferrari.
Charles Leclerc represents the spirit of Ferrari, and for him, winning is not the only thing that matters when you drive for the iconic Prancing Horse. While the Monegasque driver cannot yet match Max Verstappen’s multiple world titles, and will likely see himself surpassed statistically by either Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri by the end of the 2025 Formula 1 season, his loyalty to Scuderia Ferrari remains unshaken. His recent words reflect the mindset of a true Ferrari driver—something that Maranello desperately needs during this transitional era.
Every now and then—perhaps once every month or two—the “Leclerc question” resurfaces in media coverage. At 27 years of age, Charles Leclerc is no longer one of the youngest talents on the grid. He is now a mature Formula 1 driver, likely in the prime of his career, with the experience required to lead a team to a world championship. And race after race, he continues to show that he is capable of doing so.
Yet since the 2022 season—the year that could have marked his breakthrough moment in Formula 1 history—others have always ended up on top. Red Bull Racing’s dominant era, led by Max Verstappen, who is the same age as Charles Leclerc, has resulted in four consecutive world titles for the Dutchman. And now, in 2025, after another year filled with high expectations, it looks likely that one of the younger stars on the grid will seize the championship crown: either 25-year-old Lando Norris or 24-year-old Oscar Piastri.
Charles Leclerc: The Last True Romantic of Ferrari
Faced with the continued success of his rivals—peers his own age or even younger—many would expect Charles Leclerc to become disillusioned or even consider leaving Ferrari in pursuit of a more competitive team. A full surrender or painful departure from Maranello in search of titles elsewhere would seem understandable. And yet, Charles Leclerc has consistently rejected that narrative.
Time and again, he has reiterated his trust in the team and his deep-rooted passion for Ferrari. Even recently in Budapest, he spoke in support of Scuderia Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur, underlining once more that his loyalty has not wavered.
This time, however, his words carried even more weight. In an interview with Sky Sport Italia, when confronted directly with the question about the recent successes of Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, and Oscar Piastri, Charles Leclerc delivered a response that left no room for doubt.
“How do I feel?” said Charles Leclerc. “I drive for Ferrari, and that means a lot to me. It’s worth more than any other achievement. I want to win with Ferrari.”
It was a statement that perfectly captured his unwavering commitment to the red team from Maranello. In a sport that often revolves around results, contracts, and performance, Leclerc’s stance is a rare display of passion and long-term vision. His response reminded everyone that for some drivers, driving for Ferrari is more than just a job—it’s a purpose.
The present and future of Scuderia Ferrari remain in good hands.
