A few weeks ago, the Barcelona circuit racetrack began the renovation works on some of the facilities within the racetrack. In view of the Catalunya Grand Prix, scheduled for the second half of June, the organizers have initiated further modifications. Following the Paddock Club and the control tower, new works have started for a pedestrian walkway at the Barcelona circuit.
In November 2021, the organizers of the Barcelona Grand Prix announced, along with Formula 1, the renewed agreement to continue on the calendar. The agreement stipulates that the historic racetrack will remain among the calendar races until 2026, when the new Madrid track will probably take its place. However, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya wants to go all out to secure its spot on the calendar. To try to stay on the calendar, Formula 1 had categorically asked the organizers to modernize the facilities. Indeed, the facility located a few kilometers from Barcelona will soon be 33 years old. Among the planned interventions are works on turn 4 with wider escape routes, the new Paddock Club, already mentioned earlier, and a deep restyling of the control tower.
The latter is a true symbol of the track, just as the one at the Imola racetrack is. Looking towards sustainability, the organizers have allocated many funds for the installation of photovoltaic panels to try to make the racetrack energetically autonomous. However, the highlight of the renovation is something else and is not located on the starting line. The jewel in the crown of the “new” track is the Circuit Rooftop, a walkway that will be built just before turn 10, offering a wide view of the Catalan track.
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya proudly reports on X: “The new Circuit Rooftop is taking shape”. A construction located 16 meters above the track and on three levels. The bridge will offer various rooms to observe the track, hospitality areas, and a terrace on the top floor. The walkway will also serve to more easily connect the inner areas of the track with the outer areas.

This intervention is putting pressure on the organizers who need to complete the works by June 23, the date of the Grand Prix. A decidedly complex task given that activity on the track continues and various categories will take to the track for possible races or tests.
