When it comes to sports, everyone knows certain body types are suitable for doing sports. Runners must be aerodynamic and have durability. The discus throwers must-have arm strength. Freedivers are famous for their lung capacity. As you can see, some predispositions must be met if one wants to become an expert in their sports field.
In the F1 world, there are also crucial things one has to have in mind before deciding to pursue a racing career. Cardiovascular endurance and durability are vital when practicing to become an F1 driver. Another important thing is being fit and able to endure high temperatures and humidity. Things were different a few decades ago. We’ll look into that piece of history later in the article.
Read on and learn why plus-size F1 drivers aren’t that present in the racing world. Also, you’ll discover why they matter and how to approach one that caught your eye.
How Formula 1 Values Every Split of a Second
Everyone knows that seconds, no, milliseconds, mean the difference between winning and losing in Formula 1 races. That’s the reason why cars must be as aerodynamic as possible. For a vehicle, the weight mustn’t be less than 798 kg, including the driver and tires (excluding the fuel). All F1 cars can accelerate from 0 to 100 mph AND decelerate back to 0 in five seconds.
It’s logical that the driver is fit and a certain weight. The average weight of an F1 driver is between 65 and 75 kg. The construction of Formula 1 cars dictates a body type, as you can see.
Why Plus-size People Matter
Plus-size people matter, just like any other human being. Body positivity is a movement where celebrities and the showbiz industry include big people in the bigger picture. It’s not all about being skinny, and that’s not the only body type people love to see. And, of course, large people aren’t tied to their beds.
Online dating sites are a great example of what people want. Those sites specialize in certain types of relationships or preferences, so people can find their cup of tea. No wonder there are numerous dating sites for both males and females. Those into people with a little bit more meat on their bones should check out the list of dating sites for BBW and BHM made for those looking for love. On those online dating sites, privacy means the world. Encrypted messagingensures that no one else can read private conversations. If someone decides to intercept your messages, they’ll find them encrypted and unreadable. Videochatis one of the most popular features on each platform from the list. This modern feature helps to open up, especially those who are verbal. Video chat can be beneficial if both sides are into F1 – you can watch them simultaneously and comment on them “in person.”
History Knows One Plus-size F1 Driver from Scuderia Ferrari
We mentioned that you’d learn about one plus-size F1 driver. So, here we go – meet José Froilán González, an Argentine racing driver.
José was born in 1922 in Argentina and died at the age of 90 in 2013. It’s hard to imagine his life path and everything he went through, but González was a well-built man (plus size in the racing world). So, he was nicknamed The Pampas Bullby his English fans and El Cabezon (Fat Head) by his Argentine fans. That speaks volumes about his physical appearance and is the reason why we’re mentioning him in the first place.
He competed in 26 World Championship Formula One Grands Prix over nine seasons (1950–1957 and 1960). In those World Championship races, González won two times (the 1951 British Grand Prix and the 1954 British Grand Prix). And he had seven second-place finishes and six third-place finishes. The race in 1951 was his most important one – that was Ferrari’s first win in Formula One.
He won the 1951 Coppa Acerbo, and in 1954 he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Maurice Trintignant and the Portuguese Grand Prix for Ferrari.
When it comes to Gonzalez’s 24 Hours of Le Manscareer, he won first place in thePortuguese Grand Prix 1954 for Scuderia Ferrari.
Cars used for racing 50 or 60 years ago aren’t the same type of cars used today. Back then, aerodynamics wasn’t that important. It all revolved around the skills drivers had. Nowadays, people are finding ways to make cars faster, and sadly, Formula 1 is not a place for plus-size racers. For example, Alonso is 171 cm tall and weighs 68 kg.
Hopefully, we explained why plus-size racers aren’t in demand these days. That doesn’t mean they can’t contribute to other sports and fields in life because they do. We’re witnessing their importance that grows daily and can’t wait to see the bright future.
