It seems like an era has passed since Fernando Alonso was racing in red and took the Ferrari to battle for the World Championship titles, despite never having the fastest car in the duels with Red Bull. The Spanish driver left the Maranello team in 2014, at the end of a four-year period with ups and downs. Fernando chose to move to Ferrari in the start of the 2010 Formula 1 season, winning the first race in Bahrain, but his first year with the Italian remains the biggest disappointment of of his F1 career, when he lost the world championship in Abu Dhabi despite starting the race as championship leader. We also remember the 2012 Formula 1 season, the year in which he fought for the title up to Brazil, losing the world championship by only 3 points against Sebastian Vettel. Fernando wanted to remember those periods and the support he has always felt at Monza every time.
“If you have driven for Ferrari you will always feel the love and support every time you return to Monza. Being a Ferrari driver here gives you extra motivation. I never look back but obviously it’s nice to see what I have achieved in these years’. – he said, ahead of the 2022 Italian Grand Prix.
Unforgettable in the hearts of fans remains the victory at Monza in 2010, with thousands of Tifosi cheering him under the podium in the post-race celebrations. A victory that remained the last for Ferrari for almost ten years, until Charles Leclerc won in front of the Ferrari fans three years ago.
The future Aston Martin driver was then asked about his form, stating that he has never been as competitive as now: “I think I’m at a level that I didn’t even have when I won the titles. This thing gives me hope for the next few years’.
